Senior Design (Semester 1) Final Project

In this project, we imitated the architectural design process for a small academic building. In the second semester (currently), we will be designing the systems for the building. I used the Cove Tool, Autodesk Revit, Adobe InDesign, and Adobe Illustrator.

Site Analysis

The site was chosen based primarily on views and accessibility. Once it was chosen, we did a site analysis to influence the orientation and shape of the building in order to maximize views, accessibility, and helpful sunlight. This was done by visiting the site, looking at it in satellite images, and looking at maps.

User Analysis

A user analysis was also conducted to assess the needs of occupants. We sent a survey to Architectural Engineering students and faculty to determine the occupants’ desires, complaints about the current building, and use patterns. This information was used to make decisions about the massing, floorplan, and circulation of the building.

Massing and Sketches

The massing sketches and models were created based on the analyses above. Ultimately, a design was chosen that would represent the Architectural Engineering program and the culture of Boulder as a whole while still fitting in with the other buildings on the CU Boulder East Campus.

To the right are the details of the design, including layout, circulation, and environmental analysis.

In addition to these posters, we created a construction drawing set. Please contact me if you would like to see this document or any of the above posters in PDF form.
